Configuring the Analytics Engine for Data Cube

To create data sources in Data Cube, you must configure at least one Analytics Engine in your CommCell environment to store the Data Cube data.

You can enable the Analytics Engine from the CommCell Console.

Before You Begin

  • If you do not have an Analytics Engine in your CommCell environment, or if you want to configure a new Analytics Engine, then you must install the Analytics package. For more information, see Installing the Analytics Engine.

    Notes:

    • If you installed a MediaAgent before Service Pack 6, then that MediaAgent includes the Analytics package. If you configured the Analytics Engine on a MediaAgent before SP6, then you do not have to install the Analytics package. However, if you did not configure the Analytics Engine on a MediaAgent that was installed before SP6, and you then upgrade the MediaAgent to the latest service pack, then you must install the Analytics package. For more information about configuring the Analytics Engine on MediaAgents that were installed before SP6, see Upgrade Considerations for MediaAgents with Analytics Engine.
    • Data Cube requires only one Analytics Engine in your CommCell environment. If you already configured an Analytics Engine for another purpose, such as Data Analytics, then you do not need to configure an additional Analytics Engine.
  • If you are not the CommCell administrator, then you must have a security association that includes a role with the Agent Management permission or the Administrative Management permission and with the MediaAgent that you select as the engine.

For information about adding a security association to a user, see Administering the Security Associations of a User.

  • Warning: Do not put the index directory and the Web Server (DM2) cache directory in the same location, because data loss might occur. The location of the Web Server cache is stored on the Web Server client in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/CommVault Systems/Galaxy/InstanceNumber/DM2WebSearchServer/szCacheDataFilesPath.
  • Review the requirements for configuring the Analytics Engine on a MediaAgent. See Analytics Engine Requirements for Data Cube.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources > MediaAgents.
  2. Right-click the MediaAgent that you want to use, and then click Properties.

The MediaAgent Properties dialog box appears.

  1. On the Analytics Engine tab, select Configure / Deconfigure Analytics Engine.
  2. Click Browse, select where you want to store the Analytics Engine index on the MediaAgent, and then click OK.

Note: The Analytics Engine index directory must meet the following requirements:

    • Do not put the index directory and the Web Server (DM2) cache directory in the same location, because data loss might occur. The location of the Web Server cache is stored on the Web Server client in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/CommVault Systems/Galaxy/InstanceNumber/DM2WebSearchServer/szCacheDataFilesPath.
    • The folder must be a local, non-root folder on the MediaAgent.
    • The folder must not be empty.
    • The path name must not contain any of the following characters:

    ~!@#$%^&*()_+|}{“?><,/.’;[]=-`

The path that you select appears in the Index Directory box.

  3. Under Available Analytics Engine Type, click Data Analytics.
  4. Click the right arrow (>) to move Data Analytics to the Configured Analytics Engine Type list.
  5. Click OK.
