Recovering System Data and Commvault Libraries from a DR Backup

After the basic operating system is installed, recover the system data as well as the IBM and Commvault libraries from tape.

Before You Begin

Make sure that the tape volume with the minimum backup data is loaded to the tape drive. The tape drive must be accessible from the IBM i File System Agent system.

Procedure

After you install the basic operating system, the AS/400 Main Menu dialog is displayed.

  1. To clear the system messages, perform the following from the command line:
    1. Run the following command and press Enter.

      CHGMSGQ MSGQ(QSYSOPR) DLVRY(*BREAK) SEV(70)

    2. Run the following command and press Enter.

      ENDSBS SBS(*ALL) OPTION(*IMMED)

    3. Press Enter to clear the message that appears once the system is in a restricted state.
  2. To check if the tape is loaded to the tape drive, run the following command, substituting TAPXX with the tape device name.

    CHKTAP DEV(TAPXX) ENDOPT(*REWIND)

  3. To restore the CVLIB library, run the following command, substituting TAPXX with the tape device name.

    RSTLIB SAVLIB(CV*) DEV(TAPXX)

  4. To restore the minimum backup data from the tape volume, run the following commands from the command line, substituting TAPXX with the tape device name and VOLXX the volume name:

    Note: Use the same tape volume to which minimum backup data was backed up using the CVLIB\CVBCKUPTAP command.

    CVLIB/CVRSTTAP DEV(TAPXX) VOL(VOLXX)

    Example

    Type the following command when the tape drive is TAP01 and the volume name is VOL01.

    CVLIB/CVRSTTAP DEV(TAP01) VOL(VOL01)

  5. To proceed with the restore, type YES and press Enter on the next dialog.
  6. Type OK and press Enter for the dialog boxes that are displayed.

    The restore process appears in the status bar.

  7. When the restore is complete, the following dialog appears. Type OK and press Enter.

    Type reply (if required), press Enter.
    RESTORE is completed from Tape. You can proceed with Network configuration
    and start the TCP servers to restore the remaining data from Commvault
    backup
    Reply . . . OK

  8. Refer to the IBM documentation to configure the TCP/IP configuration from the command line.
  9. Perform initial program load (IPL) by using the following command.

    PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*IMMED) RESTART(*YES)

Result

The following operating system and system data are restored from the tape:

  • User profiles
  • Private Authorities
  • Configuration objects
  • *IBM Libraries (system libraries)
  • System libraries with user data: QSYS2, QGPL, QUSRSYS
  • Commvault Libraries: CV*
  • System files and Commvault files with logs
    •  /QIBM/ProdData
    • /QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData
