Configuring the CommServe Computer to Support Multiple Tenants

To configure the CommServe computer as a service provider, you must perform a series of configurations to set up your CommCell environment for multiple tenants.

Before You Begin

You must install and configure the Commvault proxy. For instructions, see Setting Up the Commvault Proxy for the Service Provider.

Procedure

  1. Secure your CommCell environment by enforcing tenants to provide their user credentials during client installations.

    For instructions, see Enabling User Authentication for Installing Agents on the CommCell.

  2. Create a client group where tenant clients can wait temporarily until they are assigned to an appropriate client group.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click Client Computer Groups and then click New Group.

      The Create New Client Group dialog box appears.

    2. In the Group Name box, enter WaitingRoom.
    3. In the Description box, type a brief description for the client group.
    4. On the Activity Control tab, clear all of the activity check boxes.
    5. Click Network.

      The Network Properties for Client Group dialog box appears.

    6. Select the Configure Firewall Settings check box, click Advanced.

      When the warning message appears, click OK.

    7. On the Incoming Connections tab, click Add to specify connections from the Commvault proxy as BLOCKED.

      Click Add again to specify connections from the CommServe computer as BLOCKED.

    8. On the Outgoing Routes tab, click Add.

      The Route settings dialog box appears.

    9. From the Remote Group/Client list, select the CommServe computer.
    10. In the Route Type area, click Via Proxy.
    11. From the Remote Proxy list, select the Commvault proxy, and then click OK.
    12. Click OK twice.
  3. Repeat the instructions in step 2 to create another client group called FireWallSettings to define firewall settings.
  4. Configure firewall settings between the client groups that you created and the CommServe computer.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the CommServe node, and then click Properties.

      The CommCell Properties dialog box appears.

    2. On the Firewall Configuration tab, verify that the Configure Firewall Settings check box is selected.
    3. On the Incoming Connections tab, click Add to specify connections from the WaitingRoom client group as BLOCKED.

      Click Add again to specify connections from the FireWallSettings client group as BLOCKED.

    4. On the Outgoing Routes tab, click Add to specify the route settings for the WaitingRoom client group.

      The Route settings dialog box appears.

    5. From the Remote Group/Client list, select the WaitingRoom client group.
    6. In the Route Type area, click Via Proxy.
    7. From the Remote Proxy list, select the Commvault proxy, and then click OK.
    8. Repeat steps e, f, g, and h to specify the route settings for the FireWallSettings client group.
    9. Click OK.
  5. Specify the CommCell configurations that will be used by all tenants.

    Note: Do not instruct tenants to specify the following configurations. When a tenant specifies a configuration, the configuration applies only to that tenant.

    1. Create a storage policy for disaster recovery backups.

    3. Set up an internal email server.
