Schedule Pattern or Schedule Details

Use these dialog boxes to schedule jobs.

Schedule Name

Displays the name of the schedule. If creating a new schedule, use this space to enter the name of the schedule.

One Time

Runs a job a single time. Select the date and time you want the job to begin.

After Backup Job Completes

This option applies to Oracle Live Sync. Select this option to have the Commvault software automatically copy the changed data to the destination after the backup job completes.

If you configure Live Sync to use a secondary copy, the software copies the data to the destination after the data is available on the copy.

Daily

Runs a job on a daily basis. Choose the start time and the interval, in days, at which you want the job to repeat.

  • Exceptions

    Defines days of the month to exclude from the schedule.

  • Options

    Click to display the Advanced Schedule Options dialog box. For information, see Advanced Schedule Options.

Weekly

Runs a job on a weekly basis. You can run the job every n number of weeks on the selected days of the week.

  • Exceptions

    Defines days of the month to exclude from the schedule.

Monthly

Runs a job on a monthly basis. You can run the job every n number of months on the selected date or day. You can also select the standard calendar or a custom calendar (if available). Monthly schedules using custom calendars will run according to the definitions of a month as defined in the calendar.

  • Exceptions

    Defines days of the month to exclude from the schedule.

  • Options

    Click to display the Advanced Schedule Options dialog box. For information, see Advanced Schedule Options.

Yearly

Runs a job on a yearly basis. You can run the job annually on the selected date or day.

Note: The Monthly and Yearly selections allow you to schedule other calendar events that are commonly of interest. For example, you can schedule backups on the last weekday every three months for quarterly backups. Optionally, you can select the Every n Month(s) option, which allows you to customize intervals at which the job will run. You can also select the standard calendar or a custom calendar (if available). Yearly schedules using custom calendars will run according to the definitions of a year as defined in the calendar.

Automatic

Automatically runs a backup job when specific criteria are met. Automatic schedules can be created for the following agents:

  • Laptop
  • Microsoft SQL server
  • Oracle
  • Oracle RAC
  • SAP Oracle
  • Notes Database

The options below are available for automatic schedules:

  • Job Interval

    Allows you to specify time intervals for CommCell jobs.

    • Minimum Interval between Jobs

      Specify the number of hours to start a backup job if the other automatic scheduling criteria are satisfied.

    • Maximum Interval between Jobs

      Specify the number of hours since the last successful job completed to start a job even if the other automatic scheduling criteria are not satisfied.

  • Laptop (This tab appears when a schedule is part of a schedule policy)

     The following options apply to laptop clients.

    • Job Interval
      • Minimum Sync Interval
      • Ignore operation window at Maximum interval

        Ignores the Operation Window rules for the time period specified in the Maximum Interval between jobs box and continues the backups on your laptop client. For information on operation window rules, see Operation Window Overview.

    • Network Management

      Allows you to specify the available network types.

      • Use only wired network

        Select to start the job when the network connectivity is wired.

      • Minimum Network Bandwidth n Kbps

        Select to specify the minimum number of kbps that the job should use for the network bandwidth. By default the minimum bandwidth is 128.

      • Throttle at n % until bandwidth n Kbps

        Select to specify the percentage of throttle that the job should use until the bandwidth reaches an specific kbps value. By default the job throttles at 40% until the bandwidth is 2048.

      • Use only specific network

        Select to start a job using a specific network. Specify network details and add the network address.

      • Don't use metered/mobile network

        Select to disable laptop backups when a wireless network is marked as "metered".

    • Power Management

      Allows you to specify power management options for the computer.

      • Start only if the computer is running on A/C power

        Runs the job only when the computer is on A/C power.

      • Stop the task if battery mode begins

        Stops the job if the computer is on battery mode.

      • Prevent computer from going to sleep if any jobs are running

        Ensures that the computer does not enter sleep mode when CommCell jobs are running.

    • Resource Utilization

      Allows you to setup the job schedule with specific resource utilization.

      • Start only if CPU utilization is below n %

        Runs the job when CPU utilization is below the specified percentage.

    • File Management

      Allows you to setup the job schedule based on the current condition of the files.

      • Start job only if there are files to be backed up

        Runs the job if there are new files or if the files have been modified.

  • Databases (This tab appears when a schedule is part of a schedule policy)

    Setup the job based on the log files in the destination directory.

    • Database Log Management
      • Start backup when disk at log destination is

        Runs the job when the log files on the disk use this percentage of the storage space. The default is 80 percent.

        For SQL Agent, starts the backup operation for log files only if 80 percent of the space available within the log file (per maximum log file size) is full.

        Note: Automatic schedule does not work for an SQL Availability Group client.

      • Number of Archived Logs in Log Destination

        Runs the job when the number of log files on the disk reach this number. The default is 100.

  • Synthetic Full (This tab appears when a schedule is part of a schedule policy)
    • Number of Days Between Synthetic Full Backups

      Defines the number of days that should pass between synthetic full backup jobs. For information on synthetic full backup jobs, see Synthetic Full Backups Overview.

Emergency Backup Management

Allows you to define an emergency script which will run when no backups are performed for period of time.

  • Run the following script if there was no backup for n Hours

    Select this option specify the maximum amount of hours allowed without backup operations.

  • Base/ <script location> .bat or .sh

    Specify the script that must be executed when no backups are performed for the specified time interval.

Continuous

Runs a backup job continuously. The next backup job session of a continuous backup schedule starts automatically after the previous backup job completes. You can also define the time interval between two backup job sessions. By default, the next job session starts 30 minutes after the previous job session completes.

  • Job Interval

    Defines the job interval configuration for continuous backups.

    •  Interval Between Two Jobs

      Specify the time interval (in minutes) to start the next backup job session after the previous job session completes.

Advanced Schedule Options

Use this tab to select advanced schedule options for the operation.

Range of recurrence

  • Start Date

    Enter the date on which you want this schedule to take effect. Choose one of the following options to set an end boundary for the schedule:

Never End

To keep this schedule valid indefinitely (default).

End by

To set the last date on which this schedule will be effective. After this date, the schedule is deleted within 24 hours. If all of the schedules on a schedule policy are automatically deleted, the schedule policy is also deleted.

End After

To maintain the schedule until a specified number of jobs run. After the specified number of jobs run, the schedule is deleted within 24 hours. If all of the schedules on a schedule policy are automatically deleted, the schedule policy is also deleted.

Repeat

Allows you to run the job repeatedly on the time of day on which the job is scheduled to run.

  • Every n (Weeks)

    Select the value for which you want to run the job repeatedly.

  • Advanced

    Launches the Exceptions of the Weekly Schedule… dialog box.

  • On these days

    Select the day(s) on which you want to run the job.

  • Start Time / End Time

    Choose the start time and the end time for the scheduled job.

Time Zone

Allows you to schedule a job by selecting a time zone. Select a time zone from the drop-down list.

Holidays

Use this dialog box to view the defined holidays on which scheduled jobs will not run. Note: If you set a holiday at the client or client group level, restore jobs scheduled to run during that holiday will run. To prevent restore jobs from running during a holiday, set the holiday at the CommCell level.

Start Date

The start date from which no scheduled tasks will be run.

End Date

The end date for the holiday.  After this date, the schedule can run. If Annually is displayed next to the dates in the Start Date and End Date fields, no scheduled tasks will be run each year between these dates and times.

Description

The name assigned to the holiday by the user.

Add

Click this button to access the Add Holiday dialog box, which allows you to add a holiday on which scheduled jobs will not run.

Edit

Click this button to edit the holiday from the Add Holiday dialog box.

Delete

Click this button to delete a holiday.

Add Holiday

Use this dialog box to define the date and time on which scheduled jobs will not run. Note: If you set a holiday at the client or client group level, restore jobs scheduled to run during that holiday will run. To prevent restore jobs from running during a holiday, set the holiday at the CommCell level.

Annually

When selected, the schedules will run each year on the date and times you select from the Start Date and End Date fields. Annual holidays never expire and supersedes any holiday that is already set for the same day.

Start Date

From the scroll list, select the start date and time for the holiday.

End Date

From the scroll list, select the end date and time for the holiday.

Description

Use this field to describe the holiday.

Exceptions

Use this dialog box to create an exception to a weekly schedule.

Add

Allows you to choose a particular weekday or day of the month for which to exclude the schedule.

Edit

Allows you modify the existing exceptions to the schedules.

Delete

Allows you delete existing exceptions to the schedules.

New Exception

Use this dialog box to add exceptions based on weekday occurrences or days of the month.

Days

Allows you to choose a particular day of the week for which to exclude the schedule.

On

Select the first, second, third, fourth, or last weekday of the month to exclude this schedule. The operation will not run on the day selected.

Backup Schedule

Use this dialog box to create a backup schedule or to associate a schedule policy to a subclient or backup set.

Associate to schedule policy

If selected, allows you to select a specific schedule policy for this backup set or subclient.

Schedule

If selected, allows you to create a schedule for this backup set or subclient.

Do Not Schedule

If selected, a schedule will not be created for this backup set or subclient, unless a schedule policy is already associated.
