Additional New Features in Service Pack 6
The additional features and enhancements in this release, which are not listed on the New Features - Service Pack 6 page, are listed on this page with a link to full documentation for the feature.
Repair Client Installations
You can now repair Commvault installations on any Windows client from the CommCell Console, even when you cannot reach the client because of problems with the CVD service. Repair operations are useful when binary corruptions or service corruptions occur on the client.
Support for Additional Settings at the User, User Groups, and Domain Levels
You can set CommServDB.Console additional settings at the user, user group, and domain levels. This gives administrators the ability to fine tune options such as a user's access to a feature.
Graphical User Interface for the Network Test Tool
On Windows clients, you can run the Network Test Tool as a graphical user interface. On UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh clients, the graphical user interface is provided as a menu-driven interface on the command line.
Support for RADIUS and JumpCloud
Add Action Tokens to Alert Email Notifications
You can add action tokens to your alert email notifications so that the emails include an action that users can take. The action is based on the workflow that you associate with the action token.
Server and MediaAgent
Sanitizing Disks Using CVDiskEraser Tool
You can use the CVDiskEraser tool to sanitize storage disks after the data aging process has pruned jobs.
The CVDiskEraser tool has the following benefits:
- Enhances data security, and helps you to follow your organization's compliance policies.
- Eliminates the risk of performing data recovery by using third-party tools.
- Sanitizes the pruned backup data according to industry standards.
Ability to Allow or Disallow Changes to Data Encryption Settings on Storage Policy Copies
With the new Media Management Configuration parameter, you can allow or disallow changes to data encryption settings on all storage policy copies in the CommCell environment. You can use the new parameter to prevent users from accidentally altering the data encryption settings.
Ability to Hide Libraries in the CommCell Console
You can hide libraries that are under the Storage Resources node in the CommCell Browser. When you hide a library, you cannot select the library during other operations, such as when you create a storage policy or when you select a data path. This option is useful for hiding libraries that are waiting for data to be aged-off after being disabled for write.
Protection for Disk Library Mount Paths Against Ransomware Attacks - Early Release Feature
You can write-protect mount paths and UNC paths to protect them against ransomware.
Ability to Allow Media in Standalone Tape Library to be Ejected When Exported by a Vault Tracker Policy
If the media is exported using Vault Tracker, you can now use the Media Management Configuration parameter to automatically eject media from a standalone library after a backup.
Ability to Include Backup Types as an Export Filter Criteria
With the Export Media Wizard, you can now include or exclude media based on backup types, such as Full, Incremental, or Differential.
Recovering Messages from an Exchange Database (Live Browse)
You can recover individual messages from an Exchange database backup.
Messages are recovered as PST files.
Support for Multi-Stream Restore Operations with the File System Agent
You can use multiple streams to perform faster restore operations with the File System Agent.
- Performing a Restore Using Multiple Streams - IntelliSnap for the Windows File System Agent
- Multi-Stream Restores - Block-Level Restores for the Windows File System Agent
- Performing a Restore Using Multiple Streams - IntelliSnap for the Linux File System Agent
- Multi-Stream Restores - Block-Level Restores for the UNIX File System Agent
Changed Block Tracking (CBT) Support for Microsoft Azure - Early Release Feature
The Virtual Server Agent for Microsoft Azure now supports Changed Block Tracking (CBT). When you enable CBT, the Azure API detects the changed blocks (changed page range information) on Azure virtual disks by comparing snapshots. CBT provides better backup performance than traditional cyclic redundancy check (CRC) backups.
File Recovery for OpenStack Virtual Machines - Early Release Feature
You can use the Virtual Server Agent for OpenStack to recover files and folders from backups of instances or images.
Support for Third-Party Data Masking for Oracle Database Clones
After you clone an Oracle database, you can have the Commvault software run any data-masking vendor plug-in. A data-masking vendor plug-in masks sensitive data in the cloned database before the data is available for development and quality assurance.
Synthetic Full Backup Support for IntelliSnap with Windows and UNIX File System Clients - Early Release
You can now perform synthetic full backup operations on IntelliSnap-enabled subclients for the Windows file system and the UNIX file system.
A synthetic full backup is a synthesized backup that is created from the most recent full backups or synthetic full backups, together with any subsequent incremental or differential backups, into one archive file. The resulting synthetic full backup is identical to a full backup for the subclient.
Synthetic full backups are performed on the backup copy. If you choose to run incremental backups forever, then performing a synthetic full backup eliminates the need to run a full snapshot backup and a backup copy job of that full snapshot backup.
