QSYS.LIB Subclient Backup Exclusions

To avoid backup failures on the system objects when they are locked during the backup process, exclude the following contents when the subclient contains /QSYS.LIB.

For information on configuring filters, see Defining Filters.

Filters, Folders and Patterns to Exclude

  •  /QSYS.LIB

Exceptions to Filters, Folders and Patterns

  • • /QSYS.LIB/[!Q#]*.LIB/***
  • /QSYS.LIB/QGPL.LIB
  • /QSYS.LIB/QSYS2.LIB
  • /QSYS.LIB/QUSRSYS.LIB

Note: Use the pre-defined backup items *IBM and *ALLUSR which will backup all the system and user libraries instead of using the custom content with the /QSYS.LIB folder.

Eliminate Backup Failures

To speed up the backup process and to avoid backup failures, you can filter out items which consistently fail ,for example locked system objects, system libraries, and operating system objects. For information on how to set filters for backups, see Defining Filters.

After you add the failed objects to the filter, run a full backup to remove them from backups.

Full and Synthetic Backups

Use a synthetic full backup for UNIX file systems only.

Do not run a synthetic full backup for Library File System (LFS) data because the software does not drop the data because it requires all of the archives and data packets for the restore.

Reconfiguring the Default Subclient Content

The default subclient serves as a catch-all to ensure that the software backs up all the data. Do not change the content of the default subclient.
