Configuring the RMAN Block Size for SAP on Oracle

The block size is number of bytes of data the SAP on Oracle database reads for backup and restore operations. The default value is 1MB.

Set the block size to 0 to use the default RMAN block size.

Note: The block size value must be a minimum of 32 KB and be divisible by 16.

Note: When you set this value in the CommCell Console, the client init<SID>.sap profile is automatically updated with the BLKSIZE parameter similar to the following line:

RMAN_PARMS="SBT_LIBRARY=/opt/commvault/Base64/libobk.so,BLKSIZE=32768,ENV=(CvClientName=client_name1,CvInstanceName=Instance001)"

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SAP for Oracle.
  2. Right-click the instance and then click Properties.
  3. Select the size of the block for backup and restore operations. On the Details tab of the Instance Properties dialog box, in the Block Size box, type the block size.
  4. Click OK to close the Instance Properties dialog box.
