Browse and Restore of Sub Sites and Documents

Always browse and restore a document, a sub site, a library, or a list one level higher in the destination. Else, the restore operation might fail.

For example,

  • Restore a document or a list item to a document library or a list where they need to be restored to.
  • Restore a complete document library, a list or a sub site to the root (/) of their current site collection.

On the destination computer, you can browse and restore the offline content database as follows:

  1. In the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers | <Client> | SharePoint Server| Database.

    Right-click Database, point to All Task and click Offline Browse.

  2. In the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, enter the following details:
    1. Browse and select the SQL Instance that has the Content database attached to it.

      If you are browsing from a remote server, type a name for SQL Instance.

    2. Browse and select the Content Database that has to be mined.

      If you are browsing from a remote server, type a name for Content Database.

    3. Select the Attach Content Database to Web Application check box and enter a Web Application URL.

      Enter a web application URL which does not have a site collection added.

      • For SharePoint 2007, it is mandatory to provide the web application link.
      • For SharePoint 2010 and 2013, attach the content database to web application only for host named site collections.
      • For SharePoint 2007, before performing browse on content database, detach the content database from the web application.

    4. Click View Content.
  3. The Client browse tab will display the Central Administrator path under the Database.

    Navigate to the desired level that you wish to restore and select from the available display of sub sites, libraries or documents.

    • When trying to restore document versions, you can restore either the latest version or all the available versions.
    • For SharePoint 2007, you cannot restore individual items.
    • Browse shows list item size as 0.

    Click Recover All Selected.

  4. On the Restore Options tab, Document is selected under Types of Restore.

    From the Destination client list, select the client that has the SharePoint Server iDataAgent installed on it.

    Browse and Specify Destination path on the SharePoint Server.

    Click Unconditional Overwrite and click OK.
