Configuring IntelliSnap Backup for the Client

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers.
  2. Right-click the client and click Properties.
  3. In the Client Computer Properties dialog box, click Advanced, and then select the Enable IntelliSnap check box to enable IntelliSnap backup for the client.

Configuring an Instance

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System.
  2. Right-click the backup_set, point to All Tasks, and then click New Subclient.

The Create New Subclient dialog box appears.

  3. In the Subclient Properties dialog box, specify the basic settings for the subclient:
    1. In the Subclient Name box, type a name.
    2. On the Content tab, click Browse to select the directory or file that you want to back up, and then click Add.

      • The subclient content must contain data that resides on the storage device volume; do not include local drives as subclient content.
      • The root folder (/) or a folder belonging to the root volume should not be added as subclient content.
      • Wildcards are not supported to define the subclient content.
      • In a cluster configuration with disk file system mount points as subclient content, you must use a proxy client for backups to run successfully.
    3. Click the Storage Device tab.
    4. On the Data Storage Policy subtab, from the Storage Policy list, select the appropriate storage policy.
  4. Click Advanced.

The Advanced Subclient Properties dialog box appears.

  5. If you use IntelliSnap, select an engine.
    1. Click the IntelliSnap Operations tab.
    2. Select the IntelliSnap check box.

A message appears that tells you that the next backup will be a full backup..

    3. Click OK.
    4. From the Available Snap Engines list, select the engine that matches your snapshot type. For a list of available engines for your array, see Snapshot Engine.
    5. From the Use Proxy list, select the appropriate MediaAgent.

This is the MediaAgent that is used to perform the IntelliSnap and backup copy operations.

Note:: When you perform an IntelliSnap backup using a proxy, make sure that the operating system on the proxy server is either same version or later than the operating system on the client computer.

    6. Optional: If you want to perform the backup copy operations on a different MediaAgent, select the Use Separate Proxy for Backup Copy check box, and then select the appropriate MediaAgent from the Proxy list.
    7. Click OK.
  6. In the Backup Schedule dialog box, click Do Not Schedule, and then click OK.

Skip this section if not using Solaris.

Enable IntelliSnap Backups on Solaris Zone

Follow the steps given below to enable IntelliSnap backups on each of the non-global zone clients containing the application data.

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Client Computers | <Client>
    • Right-click the client and select Properties.
    • Click Advanced.
  2. In the Advanced Client Properties (General) tab
    • Select the Global zone host name from the drop-down list.
    • Click OK.

      • We support disks on a global zone mounted using loopback File System on a non global zone.
      • This option need not be enabled if you are using a NFS share. This is because when using NFS mount paths, the operations are limited to the non-global zone and does not use the global zone.

  3. Click OK and repeat the above steps on all the non-global zone clients containing the application data.

Create a Snapshot Copy

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies.
  2. Right-click the storage_policy and click All Tasks > Create New Snapshot Copy.
  3. In the Copy Name box, enter a name.
  4. From the Library list, MediaAgent list, Drive Pool list, Scratch Pool list, select the appropriate library, MediaAgent, drive pool and scratch pool.

Note: Drive pool and scratch pool are applicable only for tape libraries.

  5. Click OK.

Configuring a Backup Copy

A backup copy operation provides the capability to copy snapshots of the data to any media. It is useful for creating additional standby copies of data and can be performed during the IntelliSnap backup (inline) or at a later time (offline).

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate <Storage Policy> and click Properties.
  3. In the Storage Policy Properties dialog box, click the Snapshot tab.
  4. Select Enable Backup Copy checkbox to enable movement of snapshots to media.

  5. Click OK.
