Data Protection for Oracle VM
Oracle VM includes Oracle VM Manager and one or more Oracle servers. Oracle VM Manager is a management interface for servers and virtual machines. Oracle servers can be grouped into pools.
Commvault provides data protection and recovery for virtual machines running in Oracle VM Manager.
You can perform full, incremental, differential, or synthetic full backups of virtual machines. The first backup of a virtual machine is always a full backup, regardless of the selected backup type.
Backups are crash consistent.
You can restore full virtual machines.
Only streaming backups are supported.
Commvault data protection operations are managed through the CommCell Console. You can use the CommCell Console to configure a virtualization client and other entities that are used to support operations.
A virtualization client is the access point for Oracle VM Manager. You must define a virtualization client that provides access to an Oracle VM Manager deployment and provide user credentials that enable you to connect to Oracle VM Manager.
When you create an Oracle VM Manager virtualization client, the Commvault software automatically creates an Oracle VM instance, a backup set, and a default subclient that can be used to protect all virtual machines. You can create additional subclients to perform separate protection operations for different groups of virtual machines. For example, you can create different subclients for different protection levels, and use the default subclient to protect any remaining virtual machines.
