Deployment Planning for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization

The Virtual Server Agent (VSA) supports data protection and recovery for virtual machines deployed on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV).

Virtualization Components and Terminology

The Virtual Server Agent is installed on a Linux or Windows virtual machine under the RHEV data center that contains the virtual machines to be protected. The virtual machine with the VSA installed is referred to as a VSA proxy, and is used to perform backup and recovery operations for virtual machines. Red Hat guest tools must be installed on the VSA proxy machine.

A Red Hat virtualization client is defined in the CommCell software to connect to each RHEV Manager.

One or more VSA proxies can be deployed for each Red Hat data center. All VSA proxies for the data centers associated with a RHEV Manager must be added to the Red Hat virtualization client.
