Adding a NAS Server for NDMP Backups

To back up NDMP file system data, you must add a NAS server. (Because the software for the NDMP Agent is installed automatically as part of the MediaAgent installation, no additional software is needed.)

Note

If the data you want to backup resides on a Storage Virtual Machine (vFiler or Vserver), configure the Storage Virtual Machine as the NAS server.

If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up NDMP, add a storage array when you add the NAS server.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File Servers.

    The File servers page appears.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click Add server, and then click NAS.

    The Add NAS server dialog box appears.

  3. In the Name box, enter a name for the NAS server.

  4. In the Host name box, enter the fully qualified host name of the NAS server.

  5. From the Plan list, select a server plan.

  6. Under Choose backup method, configure NDMP:

    If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up NDMP, add a storage array.

    1. Under Network share configuration, beside Array, click Add.

      The Add array dialog box appears.

    2. From the Select vendor list, select the array vendor.

    3. In the Array name box, enter the storage array name.

    4. Enter the user name and password for the array.

    5. To confirm that the system can connect to the array, click Preview.

    6. Click OK.

    NDMP

    1. Under NDMP configuration, in the NDMP login box and the NDMP password box, enter the credentials needed to access the NAS server.

      Note

      For NetApp C-Mode file servers, run the generate-password command on the file server to obtain an NDMP password. For more information, see the NetApp documentation for your file server.

    2. To assign a different listen port, in the Listen port box, enter a port number.

      The default value for the listen port is the default computer port socket number assignment.

    3. To confirm that the system can connect to the NAS server, click Preview.

    4. To change what is backed up, do the following:

      1. Next to Content, click Edit.

        The Add/edit content dialog box appears.

      2. On the Content tab, enter a path, and then click the add button +.

      3. To exclude files and directories from backups, on the Exclusion tab, enter a path, and then click the add button +.

      4. Click Save.

  7. Click Save.
