Configuring a Cascading Network Topology for Tenants that Connect Through a Local Gateway

There are some tenants that do not have access to the Internet and cannot connect to MSP infrastructure network gateways. For such tenants, connections must be routed via local backup network gateways that can connect to the MSP network gateways. You can do this by creating a cascading topology.

Before You Begin

Ensure that you enable the network gateway option (that is, the option labeled This computer is in DMZ and will work as Network Gateway) for all backup network gateway servers. For more information, see Network Options.

Procedure

  1. Using the procedure found in Adding a Smart Server Group, create Server Group A, which will contain all tenant servers except backup network gateways.

    Note

    • The server group will create a route with a backup network gateway that is part of same company. It won’t create a route with any other tenant’s backup network gateway server.

    • If there are dedicated MSP infrastructure gateways and MSP infrastructure MediaAgents in each region (for example, U.S. East, U.S. West, Europe, etc.), then you can create a separate topology for each region containing tenant servers of only that particular region in Server Group A and tenant gateway Server Group B, below.

    1. Select Automatic association, and then select the following rules (in the Match drop-down list select all):

    2. Add a new Rule Group, select Client associated to any company is true, and then click Save.

    3. Add a new rule, select Client acts as proxy is false, and then click Save.

    4. Add a new rule, select Client equal to Installed, and then click Save.

  2. Using the procedure found in Adding a Smart Server Group, create Server Group B, which will contain all backup gateways acting as network gateways.

    1. Select Automatic association, and then select the following rules (in the Match drop-down list, select all):

      • Add a new Rule Group, select Client associated to any company is true, and then click Save.

      • Add a new rule, select Client acts as proxy is true, and then click Save.

      • Add a new rule, select Client equal to Installed, and then click Save.

  3. Using the procedure found in Configuring Cascading Network Gateway Connections Using Predefined Network Topologies - Client Type is Servers, create a new cascading network gateway topology using the above groups, as follows:

    • In the Servers list, select Server Group A created in Step 1, above, which contains all tenant servers.

    • In the Server gateways list, select Server Group B created in Step 2, above, which contains all tenant backup network gateways.

    • In the Network gateways list, select the MSP infrastructure network gateways group.

    • In the Infrastructure machines list, select a server group that contains the CommServe computer and all of the MediaAgents required to back up the tenant's clients that are present in Server Group A.
