Creating a User-Defined Subclient for CIFS Shares or NFS Exports for Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale

You can create a subclient for files and folders that have the same backup requirements. For example, you can create a subclient for files that change frequently.

Before You Begin

  • Review the following prerequisites for CIFS shares:

    • Verify that all Windows data access nodes have access and permissions to the CIFS share.

    • Verify that the impersonate user credentials have read and write permissions on the CIFS share. The same user credentials are used to back up the subclient and to browse for subclient content (not all file servers require credentials for browsing).

    • If you are creating a subclient whose content is CIFS shares from a non-default access zone, verify that the subclient content is from the same access zone.

    • For optimal usage of all the nodes in the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale cluster, you must configure appropriate number of data readers (streams) on the access nodes at the subclient level. For more information, see Optimal Utilization of Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale Nodes to Backup CIFS Shares.

  • Review the following prerequisites for NFS shares:

    • Mount the NFS export from the file server.

      For example, to mount a volume named vol_abc from a file server at 172.19.77.5 to a mount point named /test, use the following command:

      mount 172.19.75.75:/vol/vol_abc 19922944 185856 19737088 1% /test
    • Verify that the NFS export is mounted in the same directory on all the Linux data access nodes.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File servers.

    The File servers page appears.

  2. Click the file server.

    The file server page appears.

  3. Under Agents, click CIFS or NFS.

    The protocol page appears.

  4. Under Subclients, on the right of the page, click Add subclient.

    The Add subclient dialog box appears.

  5. In the Name box, enter a name for the subclient.

  6. On the Content tab, choose the data to include in the backup:

    1. Specify the data to back up.

    2. To access the data with saved user credentials, click Impersonate user, and then select the user credentials.

  7. To add items to exclude from backups, on the Exclusions tab, do the following:

    1. Specify the data to exclude.

    2. From the Include global exclusions list, select one of the following options:

      • Use cell level policy : Enables or disables global exclusions for the subclient depending on whether the Use global exclusions on all subclients option is enabled for the environment.

      • On: Enables global exclusions for the subclient.

      • Off: Disables global exclusions for the subclient.

  8. To configure exceptions to the exclusions, on the Exceptions tab, specify the exceptions.

  9. Click Save.
