Specifying Credentials for Application-Based Backups

The credentials that you specify for application-based backups at the instance, subclient, or virtual machine level are used to install application plug-ins and to perform backups of virtual machines and application data.

Note

If application credentials are different from the credentials that were specified to access the virtual machine, the application backup fails.

You can enter guest credentials to enable access to VMs at different levels. Credentials are chosen based on the following priority:

  1. Individual virtual machines

  2. VSA subclient

  3. Hypervisor virtualization client instance level

Procedure

To specify guest credentials at the instance level, perform the following steps:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server.

  2. Under the Virtual Server entry, right-click the instance and select Properties.

  3. In the Virtual Server Instance Properties dialog box, on the General tab, click the Change button beside Guest Credentials.

  4. Enter the user name and password and click OK.

To specify guest credentials for the subclient or for a specific VM, see Configuring a Subclient for Application-Based Backups.
