Getting Started with UNIX and Windows Cluster File Servers

Review each of the topics to get started with UNIX and Windows cluster file servers.

Step 1: Obtain Your User Credentials to Access the Command Center

Obtain the following information from your backup administrator:

  • The Command Center URL

  • Your Command Center user credentials

If Command Center is not set up in your CommCell environment, contact your backup administrator to deploy Command Center. For more information, see Setting Up the Command Center.

Step 2: Complete the File Server Application Setup Wizard

Configure the File Server application by completing the Setup Wizard for the Servers Application.

Step 3: Create a Cluster File Server

You can add a physical node to a Microsoft (Windows) or Veritas (Unix) cluster file server so that you can manage the clusters from the Command Center. For more information, see Creating a Cluster File Server.

Step 3: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

A default backup set, which contains a default subclient, is automatically created when you set up the File Server application. The default backup set is designed to protect all of the data on the client computer.

To create additional backup sets, see Adding Additional Backup Sets for Cluster Nodes.

To create a subclient for cluster nodes, see Creating a Subclient for Cluster Nodes.

Step 4: Perform Your First Backup and Restore

  1. Perform backups for cluster file servers.
