Managing Qumulo File Storage Subclients for CIFS

Subclients contain information about what data is backed up. You can create a user-defined subclient to manage and back up specific shares and share contents.

Two different subclients may contain instances the same content. Regardless, the content is backed up for each subclient.

The default subclient does not back up the content that is specified in the other subclients within the same backup set.

You can use wildcards to define the subclient content, exclusions, and exceptions. For more information, see Wildcards for Windows File System Subclients.

Before You Begin

  • Verify that all Windows data access nodes have access and permissions to the CIFS share.

  • Verify that the user credentials used to access the subclient have read and write permissions on the CIFS share. You can use the Impersonate user option to perform backups or to browse the subclient for content using these credentials.

  • If you are creating a subclient whose content is CIFS shares from non-default access zone, verify that the subclient all the content is from the same access zone.
