Move Backup Location - Support

Supported Backup Locations

  • You can move multiple backup location pointing to the same path on multiple disk storage to new location or consolidate with another existing backup location on that disk storage. For example:

    • Two backup locations pointing to path D:\Backup_Location1 each on disk storage Disk_Storage1 and Disk_Storage2.
  • You can move multiple backup location pointing to the same path on the same disk storage to new location. For example:

    • Two backup locations pointing to path D:\Backup_Location1 on disk storage Disk_Storage1.

Unsupported Backup Locations

  • You cannot move backup location across two different disk storage. For example, from Disk_Storage1 to Disk_Storage2.

  • You cannot consolidate multiple backup location pointing to the same path on the same disk storage. For example:

    • Two backup locations pointing to path D:\Backup_Location1 on disk storage Disk_Storage1.

Additional Information

  • You cannot perform cross-platform move backup location operation. For example, you cannot move a backup location from Windows to Linux or from Linux to Windows.

  • You cannot perform cross-version move backup location operation.

  • To avoid slow data transfer, do not move backup locations between UNC paths.

  • You cannot move a backup location shared using the Data Server-IP, SAN or iSCSI to a UNC destination path.

  • If you move from a local backup location to a UNC backup location, and the UNC backup location does not support sparse files, then the data will grow in size.

  • On Linux, sparse files are not supported.
