A CommCell environment is a logical grouping of Commvault software components designed to protect, move, store, and manage data. Each CommCell environment comprises a CommServe hosting server, one or more MediaAgents, and clients. For more information, see the CommCell Environment Overview.
Organizations often operate multiple CommCell environments, a setup called a multi-CommCell environment. To centrally manage these environments, you can register various Service CommCells with a single Primary CommCell (Global CommCell), which then functions as the Global Command Center.
In this architecture:
-
The Primary CommCell is the Global Command Center, providing a centralized interface.
-
The additional CommCell environments are the Service CommCells.
This setup enables administrators to:
-
Seamlessly switch between different Service CommCell views using the Command Center.
-
From a single interface, view and manage aggregated data, such as job activity, alerts, and capacity usage, across all connected Service CommCells.
-
Create Blueprints that serve as templates to standardize and deploy configurations or entities (such as policies, alerts, or settings) across multiple Service CommCells.
