You can perform a bare metal recovery of computers based on the PPC architecture by using the Commvault 1-Touch recovery solution. The Relax-and-Recover (ReaR) tool for Linux is integrated with the Commvault software to seamlessly create system state backups and data backups.
Note
-
ReaR is recommended for only PPC architecture. For x86_64, use regular 1-Touch.
-
Boot failures can occur on PowerPC (PPC) nodes if the
initrdsize in a ReaR-generated ISO exceeds 256 MB, preventing CVRescue.iso from booting. This is an architectural limitation of the PPC platform.
Supported ReaR Versions
-
ReaR 2.6
-
ReaR 2.4
Supported Linux Operating System Versions
Bare metal recovery using the ReaR tool is supported on the following Linux operating system versions:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS 7.0 with glibc 2.17.x
SuSE Linux (SLES)
-
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4 with glibc 2.31
-
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 with glibc 2.31
-
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x with glibc 2.22.x
-
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3 with glibc 2.22.x
-
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2 with glibc 2.22.x
Note
The administrator must add the additional configuration changes relevant to the operating system in the default.conf file.
Unsupported Hard Disk Configurations
Bare metal recovery of computers based on 4k hard disk is not supported because ReaR 2.4 version does not support 4k hard disk configuration.
