File archiving for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP moves infrequently accessed files to secondary storage while preserving access to archived content. By archiving older or less frequently used files, you can reduce storage consumption on Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP file systems without changing how users access files.
The proxy computer that initiates recall operations uses a Common Internet File System (CIFS) connection to access data residing on the FSx for NetApp ONTAP file share.
Archived files remain visible in the file system and can be restored when needed.

FPolicy-based stub recall
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP supports NetApp FPolicy integration for automatic recall of archived files.
When a user accesses an archived file, Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP sends an FPolicy notification to Commvault. Commvault then recalls the file from secondary storage and makes it available to the user.
FPolicy registration and stub recall require additional configuration on the access node. Communication between Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and the access node uses a secure connection.
Configure the following additional settings on the acces node:
-
Http for Netapp Cmode, set to 1
-
FilerHttpPort set to 443
-
LogInMethod, set to 1 (Contact Commvault support to enable this setting)
