Modifying settings for the "Recover AD in-place (same server)" option for Active Directory forest recovery

Specify additional recovery option settings for the Recover AD in-place (same server) option.

This recovery method is available only when using the Recover AD forest in-place recovery type. It restores the Active Directory database and SYSVOL data from backup on the original domain controller. Use this method when the operating system remains available and trusted, but Active Directory must be restored to a previous known-good state.

Note

With the Recover AD in-place (same server) option, if the software cache is hosted on a machine that is not the recovery node, that machine must be accessible from the recovery network. For more information on ports and network requirements, see System requirements for Active Directory forest recovery.

Go to the runbook

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Active Directory.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Forests tab, click the forest.

    The forest page appears.

  3. On the Runbooks tab, click the runbook.

    The runbook page appears.

Start the configure recovery options wizard

  1. On the Runbook settings tab, in the Recover AD in-place (same server) tile, select the domain controllers to configure.

  2. Click Configure recovery options.

The Configure recovery options dialog box appears.

  3. For Existing DSRM password for the domain controller, select a credential that contains the current Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password for the domain controller.

    Note

    • Only the password stored in the credential is used. The user account is ignored.

    • The DSRM password is used when the recovery workflow boots the domain controller into Directory Services Restore Mode.

    • If the configured DSRM password is incorrect and the recovery workflow cannot authenticate using it, the software resets the DSRM password on the domain controller to the password stored in the selected credential and continues the recovery.

  4. For Restore from copy, if multiple backup copies are available, select the copy to restore from.

    • Automatic (default) selects the backup copy according to Commvault copy precedence rules.

    • Alternatively, select a specific backup copy.

  5. Click Submit.
