Preparing the Environment for the Commvault Plug-In for VMware Cloud Director

For seamless integration of Commvault with VMware Cloud Director in a multi-tenant environment for VM data protection and management, complete the configurations described on this page.

Create a VMware Cloud Director MSP Hypervisor

A MSP hypervisor represents the provider which can view and centrally manage all organizations in your VMware Cloud Director environment. To configure a MSP hypervisor in Command Center, see Adding a VMware Cloud Director Hypervisor.

Configurations in VMware Cloud Director Portal

Access to Command Center for Plug-in

Configure the plug-in to access the Command Center instance to fetch the virtual machines associated with the hypervisor.

1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Director portal.

2. From the left navigation pane, click More and then Commvault Data Protection.

3. On the Configuration page, in the General Settings area, click Modify.

   The Credentials page of the plug-in configuration wizard appears.

4. Do the following:

   1. In CommandCenter End Point, enter the endpoint in either of the formats: https://hostname or https://IP_address.

   2. Specify the CommandCenter Username and Password.

      Note

      The user account with appropriate permissions is needed for successful plug-in configuration. For a list of required permissions, see Security Configuration for Virtualized Platforms.

   3. Click Next.

      The Hypervisor page of the plug-in configuration wizard appears.

      Note

      If you are configuring the Command Center access for the first time, you can click Trust Domain to complete the SSL validation for endpoint.

   4. In the Hypervisor Selection page, select the VMware Cloud Director hypervisor.

   5. (Optional) Specify the AD/SAML Domain.

   6. Click Next.

      The Permissions page of the plug-in configuration wizard appears.

   7. To allow users with global roles to access the plug-in, move the Grant permission to all global roles toggle to the right.

   8. Click Next.

      The Preview page appears.

   9. Click Complete, and then OK.

5. To configure redirect to the Command Center application, in the Advanced Settings area, move the Advanced View toggle to the right.

6. To log in to the Command Center application with the current logged in VMware Cloud Director user, in the Advanced Settings area, move the Use VCD username for CommandCenter toggle to the right.

Create Organizations

Create separate organizations for specific purpose or tenant in the VMware Cloud Director portal. These organizations help segregate resources and access.

Create a VMware Cloud Director Tenant Organization Hypervisor

Configure a VMware Cloud Director hypervisor in Command Center to represent each organization under the MSP hypervisor. For more information, see Self-Service Backup and Restore for VMware Cloud Director Tenants.
