Reverting the SAP for Oracle Database to the Same Host Using the BR*Tools Command Line Interface

You can use the util_file interface to revert the SAP for Oracle database to the same host. You must use the same device type as the backup device type.

You can use the revert operation to bring the SAP for Oracle database back to the point in time when the IntelliSnap backup was taken. However, the log volume will not be reverted. Perform the revert operation on the same host where backup was performed. You can use the util_file, util_vol, or util_ vol_online interface to restore the control files, data files, and log files after you revert the data volume.

Procedure

  1. In the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.utl file, add the following parameter.

    RevertSnapVolume
    1

  2. Change the Oracle DB status to started state.

  3. Restore the control file using the following commands:

    brrestore –d $[util_file] -b2 $[backup_id] -m $[control_file_path]
    brrestore -d $[device_type] -b $[last\BRBACKUP detail file] -m 0

    Example:

    brrestore -d $[util_file] -b $[last] -m $[0] --> Restores control files from the latest backup
brrestore -d $[util_file] -b $[bfiushui.anv] -m $[0] --> Restores control files from a specific BRBACKUP detail file that is used for point in time restores

  4. Restore the data file:

    • Restore with the last complete data backup using the following command:

      brrestore -d $[util_file] -b $[last] -m $[all]

    • To restore with a specified data detail file, substitute the data_detail_file variable in the following command. You must include the full path and the file name of the data detail file.

      brrestore -d $[util_file] -m $[all] -b $[data_detail_file] -u $[/]

  5. Restore the log file:

    • To restore with the log sequence numbers, substitute the start_seq and end_seq variables in the following command:

      brrestore -d $[util_file] -a $[start_seq-end_seq] -u $[/]

    • To restore with a specified log sequence number, substitute the log_seq_no variable in the following command.

      brrestore -d $[util_file] -a $[log_seq_no] -u $[/]

  6. Recover database and open database. If you performed a point-in-time restore, open the database with the RESETLOGS option.
