Complete the File Servers Guided Setup for CIFS Shares of Azure NetApp Files

Add an Azure NetApp Files CIFS/SMB file share and associate it with a backup plan.

Start the configuration

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

  2. On the Files tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Add Server.

  3. On the Configure File Server page, select Cloud File Shares, and then click Next.

  4. Select Azure NetApp Files as the cloud file share type, and then click Next.

  5. In the Name box, enter a display name for the cloud file share, and then click Next.

  6. Select the region where the Azure NetApp Files account is provisioned, and then click Next.

Create and assign a backup plan

  1. From the Plan list, select the backup plan to use for the cloud file share.

    Steps to create a new backup plan
    1. Click the add button add/plus button - gray - no border.

    2. In the Plan name field, enter a name for the backup plan.

    3. From the Storage list, select the storage location for the backups.

    4. Configure the backup plan retention and schedule by choosing one of the following options:

      Use pre-defined settings

      • Under Retention, select Standard retention to retain backups for 1 month.

      Create custom settings

      • Enable the Custom plan toggle.

      • For Retention, specify how long to keep backups (example: 30 days, 1 year).

      • For Backups run every, specify how frequently to run backups (example: daily, weekly).

    5. Click Done.

      The backup plan is created and appears in the backup plan list.

  2. Click Next.

Configure backup content

  1. Enable CIFS.

  2. From the Access nodes list, select one or more access node groups or access nodes that will be used to back up the Azure NetApp Files cloud file share.

    All access nodes listed here are Azure VMS belonging to different subscriptions. You must select an access node that belongs to the same subscription as the Azure NetApp Files cloud file share you want to protect.

    Steps to create a backup access node
    1. Click the add button add/plus button - gray - no border.

    2. Download and install the Windows access node package on a server or VM that meets the system requirements.

  3. Select existing CIFS Credentials or create new credentials that will be used to access the CIFS shares.

    You must configure CIFS credentials to change the backup content.

    Steps to add new credentials

    To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

    1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

    2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

    3. In the Password box, enter the password.

    4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

    5. Click Save.

  4. By default, all CIFS shares will be selected for backup. To modify the backup content, disable All CIFS shares.

  5. In the Content area, click Add, and then choose one of the following methods:

    • Browse: Select items from the file system.

    • Custom path: Enter one or more paths manually.

  6. In the Exclusions area, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exclude.

  7. To create exceptions, enable Define exceptions, click Add, and then use Browse or Custom path to specify items to exempt from the exclusions.

    Browse
    1. Click Browse.

    2. Enter the Interface path.

    3. Select an access node, and then click Browse.

    4. Select the required items, and then click Save.

    Custom path
    1. Enter a path or filter pattern in the Enter custom path field.

    2. Click the add button.

  8. From the Include global exclusions list, select one of the following:

    • Off: Applies only subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • On: Applies both global filters and subclient exclusions. This option overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients setting.

    • Use cell level policy: Applies global filters only if Use Global Filters on All Subclients is enabled in Global Filters.

  9. Click Finish.
