Prepare the MediaAgent for backup plans with Unified Data Vault

For workloads that use a backup plan associated with Unified Data Vault (UDV), prepare the MediaAgent to receive the backup data via the S3 protocol.

UDV provides an S3-compatible interface that allows supported workloads to send the backup data to Commvault storage. This configuration enables the access node to write data to the MediaAgent through its S3 endpoint instead of writing directly to object storage.

Network requirements

The Unified Data Vault service uses the following ports:

Port Protocol Service
5008 gRPC Remote Procedure Call
5011 HTTP S3 Endpoint
5012 HTTPS S3 Endpoint

Installed package requirements

Install the following packages on the Linux S3 endpoints (Primary Copy MediaAgent):

  • Unified Data Vault Service (CVS3Service)
  • DotNet Container Service (CVGxDotNetContainer)
  • StorageAccelerator
  • File System

Configure reverse proxy

  1. Identify a network gateway machine in the same region.

  2. Create an S3 reverse proxy topology. For the procedure, see Reverse Proxy and Load Balancing.

  3. Import a certificate and enable HTTPS. For the procedure, see Enable HTTPS for S3 Endpoint.

Create storage with this MediaAgent

Create storage that uses the MediaAgent you configured. For the procedure, see Configuring disk storage.

Create backup plan

Create a backup plan that uses the storage you configured. For the procedure, see Plans.

After creating the plan, select it during onboarding of your workload that supports Backup Plan with Unified Data Vault interface.
