Plan NetApp StorageGRID Configuration

Before you install the Commvault Flex Appliance with a NetApp StorageGRID S3 endpoint, complete the required StorageGRID configuration tasks on the StorageGRID system.

These prerequisites must be completed before starting the installation so that the appliance can connect to the S3 endpoint and use the required storage resources.

Before You Begin

Ensure that the following requirements are met:

  • All StorageGRID nodes are healthy, connected, and in a normal operational state.
  • DNS is configured for the StorageGRID S3 endpoint.
  • An HA group is available for the Gateway or Admin Nodes that will provide S3 access.
  • A load balancer endpoint is configured for S3 access.
  • You have administrative access to the StorageGRID management interface.

Required Prerequisites

Step 1: Verify Grid Health

Verify that all StorageGRID nodes are healthy, connected, and operating normally. Do not continue if any node shows an Unknown, Disconnected, or Down state.

Step 2: Configure DNS

Configure DNS for the StorageGRID S3 endpoint and verify name resolution from all Commvault Flex Appliance nodes.

Step 3: Configure a High Availability Group

Create an HA group for the Gateway or Admin Nodes that will provide highly available S3 access.

Step 4: Configure the Load Balancer Endpoint

Create an S3 load balancer endpoint, configure the required listener port (HTTPS or HTTP), and record the S3 endpoint FQDN.

Step 5: Create a Tenant Account

Create a dedicated StorageGRID tenant account for Commvault with S3 protocol access enabled.

Step 6: Create a Commvault Group

Create a dedicated group that will be used to assign the required S3 permissions.

Step 7: Create a Group Policy

Create a group policy with the required permissions and assign it to the Commvault group.

Step 8: Create a Dedicated Commvault S3 User

Create a dedicated S3 user under the Commvault tenant and add the user to the Commvault group.

Step 9: Generate Access Credentials

Generate and securely store the access key and secret key for the Commvault S3 user.

Step 10: Validate Connectivity

Verify that the S3 endpoint is reachable from all Commvault Flex Appliance nodes before beginning the installation.

Result

After these prerequisites are complete, the StorageGRID S3 endpoint is ready for use during the Commvault Flex Appliance installation.

Note

During the installation, the appliance performs several S3-related configuration tasks, but the StorageGRID prerequisites listed in this article must be completed manually before installation begins.
