Install Windows or Linux File System Package

Install the Windows or Linux File System package on the server or access node that will perform file server backup and restore operations.

Prerequisites

Permissions and Access

• You must have administrative privileges to access the Command Center and install agents on the server or access node.

Network Requirements

• The file server must have network connectivity to the CommServe.

Package Requirements by Platform

On Windows file servers:

• Install the File System package to perform file-level system state backups.

• To perform block-level system state backups, also install the MediaAgent package.

• For Active Directory restores, install both the Active Directory and the File System packages.

On Linux file servers:

• Install the File System package to enable 1-Touch backups.

Procedure

1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

2. In the Actions column for the target server, click the action button , and then select Add software.

3. In the Select Package(s) for field, select File System.

4. (Optional) To install additional packages for your use case:

   • Select MediaAgent for block-level system state backups

   • Select Active Directory for Active Directory restore capability

5. Click OK.

6. Click Install.

   The installation process begins. Monitor progress from the Command Center.

Verify Installation

After installation completes, confirm the agent is ready:

1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

2. On the Files tab, locate the server where you installed the agent.

3. Verify the server status displays as Online or Ready.
