Azure Stack HCI Auto Recovery

Replication configuration includes Azure Stack HCI setup and Commvault configuration. You can configure the required Commvault entities individually, or all together using the recovery group configuration tool.

Azure Stack HCI is a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) cluster solution built on Microsoft's Hyper-V technology.

Commvault Configuration

Commvault configuration includes the following entities:

  • Hypervisor configurations for the source and destination sites

  • Recovery target for each destination site

  • Recovery group for virtual machines or instances that are replicated from the primary site to the secondary site

In addition, you can deploy access nodes in your environment to manage operations and MediaAgents to manage data movement. These entities are needed on the primary and destination sites.

Azure Stack HCI Hypervisor Configuration

For Azure Stack HCI, the Commvault hypervisor configuration represents an Azure Stack HCI cluster.

The following requirements apply:

  • Verify that the VSA package is installed on the CommServe computer.

  • Verify that the Azure Stack HCI access nodes can communicate with the CommServe computer. If the access nodes reside behind a firewall or if the CommServe server is running UNIX, register the access nodes to the CommServe computer by installing the VSA package with the required firewall settings on each of the access nodes.

Though you have registered these nodes to the Commserve computer, you must complete the entire procedure to add a hypervisor.

  • You will need the following information to add a hypervisor:

    • The hypervisor is an Azure Stack HCI cluster.

Be prepared to enter credentials for the Azure Stack HCI cluster. The user must belong to the local administrators group for Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 or the Azure Stack HCI administrators group for Hyper-V Server 2012 and later. For an Azure Stack HCI cluster, the user account must have full cluster permissions (Read and Full Control).

    • Also identify one or more nodes on which you will install the VSA to create proxies for backup and restore operations.
