Requiring a Passkey as a Laptop Device Owner

You can require a passkey for browsing and restoring data on your computer. After you enable the passkey feature and create the passkey, share the passkey with the required computer users.

If your administrator also requires a passkey for performing browse and restore operations on your computer, your passkey takes precedence. Alternatively, if you have not enabled and created a passkey yet, then you can ignore the passkey created by your administrator and create your own passkey.

Configuring a Passkey

When you create a passkey, you may need to provide the passkey created by your company Commvault tenant administrator.

Before You Begin

Verify and obtain the company-level passkey from your company Commvault tenant administrator. If your tenant administrator has not enabled a passkey for all company clients, then ignore this step.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Laptop.

    The Laptop page appears.

  2. Click the laptop that you want to require a passkey for.

    The laptop properties page appears.

  3. In the Passkey section, move the Require passkey for restores toggle key to the right.

The Set passkey dialog box appears.

  4. In the Passkey and Confirm passkey boxes, enter a passkey, and then click Submit.

  5. The Confirm create passkey dialog box appears.

  6. Click Yes.

If your Commvault tenant administrator has configured a passkey for the company, then the Set passkey dialog box appears with a new Existing passkey field.

  7. In the Existing passkey field, enter the passkey configured by your company Commvault tenant administrator, and then click Submit.

The Confirm create passkey dialog box appears.

  8. Click Yes.

Results

The passkey is created for the laptop and the Authorize for restore toggle key appears in the Passkey section of the computer properties page. Any other user must enter the passkey before performing browse and restore operations on the laptop.

Enabling Browse and Restore Operations for Thirty Minutes

You can enable users to browse and restore backup data for 30 minutes after passkey authorization.

  1. On the laptop properties page, in the Passkey section, move the Authorize for restore toggle key to the right.

The Authorize for restore dialog box appears.

  2. In the Passkey box, enter the passkey, and then click Save.
