Add a VM group to identify a specific set of VMs to back up or restore.
Before You Begin
- Define a server plan that specifies the storage, retention, and backup schedule to be used for the VM group.
- To select VMs based on views or automatic discovery rules, see "Views and Rule Options" (below).
Start the Configuration Wizard

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.
The Virtual machines page appears.

Click Add VM group.
The Add VM group page of the configuration wizard appears.
Select Hypervisor

Click Hypervisor to search for and select an existing hypervisor.

Click Next.
Plan
-
To select a plan, do one of the following:
- Click an existing plan.

Click the plus sign + to create a new plan.
The Create server backup plan dialog box appears.

In Plan name, enter a unique name for the plan.

In Storage, select a storage pool.

In Retention rules, select a retention plan.

Click Done.

Click Next.
Add VM Group

In Name, enter a unique name for the VM group.

To create rules that auto-discover and select VMs to add to the VM group, do the following:

Click Add, and then select Rule.
The Add Rule dialog box appears.

To include VMs that match all rules, select all. To include VMs that match any of the rules, select any.

From the first list, select the type of rule to create:
- Browse: Select specific VMs. (Selecting this option changes the Add rule dialog box to the Add content dialog box.)
- Guest DNS hostname: Select VMs based on a hostname or a domain. For example, to select hosts on the "mycompany.com" domain, enter Guest DNS hostname | Ends with | mycompany.com.
- Guest OS: Enter the exact name of the operating system or a pattern to identify an operating system group (for example, Microsoft to identify any VM that has a version of the Windows operating system).
- Host: Enter the host name, the IP address of the host, or a host name pattern using wildcards. When you add a host, all VMs on the host are included in the backup.
- Power state: Select VMs based on whether they are powered on or off.
- Template: Enter True or False.
- Virtual machine: Enter the display name of the VM.
- Virtual machine name or pattern: Select VMs based on their names. For example, to select VMs that have a name that includes "east", enter Virtual machine name or pattern | Contains | east.

From the second list, select a qualifier such as Equals, Contains, or Starts with.

From the third list, provide a value as required for the type of rule.

To select VMs in other ways, do the following:

Click Add, and then select Content.
The Add Content dialog box appears.

From the Browse and select VMs list, select Server View or Folder View.

Browse and select VMs.

Click Save.

Click Submit.
