Adding a VMware Cloud Director Hypervisor

Add a VMware Cloud Director hypervisor to support data protection operations for all virtual machines hosted or managed by the VMware Cloud Director deployment.

If you have multiple VMware Cloud Director deployments, create a virtualization client for each deployment.

A VMware Cloud Director deployment can include one or more vCenters.

Before You Begin

  • Identify user credentials for a VMware Cloud Director user with administrator privileges.

  • Install the Virtual Server Agent on at least one machine to create a VSA proxy. The following operating systems are supported:

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Editions

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Editions

  • You can deploy a File Recovery Enabler for Linux (FREL) to serve as a Virtual Server Agent proxy for VMware Cloud Director. See Linux Proxy Support for VMware Cloud Director (Command Center).

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

  2. On the Hypervisors tab, click Add hypervisor.

    The Add hypervisor wizard opens.

  3. From the Select vendor list, select VMware Cloud Director.

  4. For Hostname / IP address, type a fully qualified hostname or IP address for the hypervisor.

  5. For Hypervisor name, type a name for the hypervisor.

  6. To provide access to the hypervisor, choose one of the following:

    Enter credentials

If you select this option, for Username and Password, enter the user credentials to provide administrative access to the hypervisor.

    Create a new user credential

To create a new credential (with Windows account type), click +. Enter the name of the new credential and the user name and password to provide administrative access to the hypervisor. For more information, see Credential Manager.

  7. From the Access node list, select the proxy to use for the hypervisor.

  8. Click Next.

The second page of the wizard appears.

  9. Select one or more vCenters to include in the VMware Cloud Director deployment.

After you select a vCenter, update the credentials for the vCenter. By default, the system uses the credentials you entered for the VMware Cloud Director hypervisor.

  10. Click Save.
