Restoring Guest Files and Folders for Commvault Plug-In for VMware Cloud Director

To execute a guest file and folder level restore, you can initiate the restore with the Commvault Plug-in for VMware Cloud Director, and then complete the restore request in the Command Center.

Procedure

In VMware Cloud Director, click the More menu icon, and then select the plug-in option, Commvault Data Protection.

If you are using an older version of VMware Cloud Director (versions 9.5 - 10.0), click the Cloud Resources menu icon, and then select the plug-in option, Commvault Data Protection.

The Virtual Machines tab appears.
From the VM Protected tab, select the protected virtual machine that contains the files that you want to restore, and then click Guest File Restore.

The Command Center starts, and the Restore dialog box for the virtual machine appears.
Select the objects to restore.
Click Restore.

The Restore options dialog box appears.
Specify the destination for the recovered files.

By default, files are restored to the source VM, using the same proxy as the backup.
1. To restore in place:
  1. Select the radio button for the source VM.
  2. Optional: To use a different proxy, change the value in the Proxy box.
  3. In the Virtual machine login area, type the username and password for the destination VM.
2. To restore to a different VM:
  1. Select Other VM.
    
    By default, the same proxy that was used for the backup performs the restore.
  2. Optional: To use a different proxy, change the value in the Proxy box.
  3. If the destination VM resides on another hypervisor, select the host name of the hypervisor from the Destination hypervisor list, and then browse to select the destination VM.
  4. In the Virtual machine login area, type the username and password for the destination VM.
3. To restore to a guest agent:
  1. Select Guest agent.
  2. Select the guest agent from the Destination list.
    
    By default, the Local System account on the destination client is used to perform the restore operation; but you can use the Impersonate user option to provide credentials for another user account.
  3. Optional: To use the Impersonate user option, type the host name and credentials for the new destination hypervisor.
    
    The user must have permissions to create files in the specified location on the destination.
For the Path box, type a full path or click Browse to select a destination folder. (For VMware, this value is only needed when you are restoring to a guest agent.)
To delete an existing file and replace it with the restored file, select Overwrite if it already exists.
Click Submit.
