Restoring Volumes from Block-Level Backups

You can browse and select a volume to restore from a backup copy on a tape or disk media. Note that the destination volume must be at least as large as the volume from which the data was backed up. This is true regardless of the amount of data that is actually restored.

If the size of the destination volume is bigger than the source volume, the file system size on the destination volume after the restore operation will be less than the actual device size. You must manually resize the file system on the destination volume.

About This Task

• When you perform a volume-level restore from the backup copy, the volume is rebuilt using the index to the latest point-in-time.

• Restoring multiple volumes at a time by using volume-level restores is not supported. Restore each volume separately.

Before You Begin

If you have system state components on the volume that is to be restored, do not perform volume-level restores.

Procedure

1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File servers.

   The Overview page appears.

2. Go to the File servers tab, and then click the file server.

   The file server page appears.

3. In the Action column for the subclient you backed up, click the action button , and then click Restore.

   The Select restore type page appears.

4. Click Volume level restore.

   The Backup Content page appears.

5. Select the check box next to the Name column and choose the volume or drive that you want to restore.

6. Click Restore.

   The Restore options dialog box appears.

7. From the Destination list, choose the destination computer for the restore operation.

8. To restore data to a specific destination volume, perform the following steps:

   1. Clear the Restore to original source mount point check box.

   2. In the Restore paths and destination area, in the Source Volume column, click the source volume, and then click Browse to select the destination volume.

   3. Click Submit.
