Backup Set Configuration for Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer)

Updated

You can use backup sets to administer data operations for virtual machines.

A default backup set is created automatically for a Xen virtualization client. You can add backup sets to provide separate administrative units. For example, you might provide separate backup sets to manage different classes of virtual machines, such as:

  • Virtual machines that support high-transaction database applications

  • Linux virtual machines

  • Virtual machines that support development and testing

A backup set contains a default subclient that automatically includes any virtual machines that are not covered by user-defined subclients. You can add subclients as needed to protect different groups of virtual machines within the backup set. See Subclient Configuration.

You can define filters to exclude virtual machines from a backup set or from a subclient.

Caution

If you delete a backup set, you cannot recover backup data for that backup set.
