Disaster Recovery Backups consists of copy operations in the following phases:
-
Phase 1: Backup to Disk
During this phase, DR Backup copies the database dump to the configured path. (See, Configuring the Export Destination for Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups for additional information.)
-
Phase 2: Movement to storage media or library:
During this phase DR Backup backs up the saved data to a configured library using a Disaster Recovery Backup storage policy, and then indexes and archives the data for long-term retention. (See, Configuring the Storage Policy for Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups for additional information.)
Hence, DR Backup jobs are managed as follows:
-
A maximum of 3 DR backup jobs – 2 Full Backups and 1 Differential Backup – can remain active at any given time.
Subsequent Full or Differential DR Backup jobs will fail to start with a message stating that a 'job is already running'.
-
When a job is in phase 1, the subsequent job will be queued and will be in the 'waiting' state.
Once the first job completes Phase 1 and moves to Phase 2, the second job will be started.
-
As only one job is allowed to be in Phase 1, the job creates a folder named 'DR' under the following folder:
<software_installation_folder>\Base\CommservDR
After the completion of Phase 1, the folder is renamed as <DR_JobID>, so that the second job can again create a 'DR' folder to continue the same process.
