IntelliSnap for UNIX Integration with GPFS File System Mirroring

Updated

You can integrate your IntelliSnap for UNIX environment with GPFS mirroring so that you can have a system that has high availability and enhanced performance.

The following configuration procedures are required.

Commvault Configuration

  1. Install and configure the File System Agent on UNIX client computers. For more information, see Getting Started with the UNIX File System Agent.

  2. Configure the GPFS failure group for each UNIX client computer that is part of the configuration. For more information, see Configuring the GPFS Failure Group for UNIX Client Computers.

Proxy and Engine Configuration

  1. Provision all disks that are in the GPFS failure group on a single engine so that the IntelliSnap operation can interface with the engine.

  2. Make sure that you have a proxy cluster that has the same GPFS version. The proxy facilitates backup copy and restore operations.

GPFS Disks Configuration

  1. The GPFS disks must be visible on the UNIX client computers so that backups continue to work after a failover.

  2. The GPFS failure group with the maximum number of descriptor (desc) disks must be snapped for file system consistency.

  3. The GPFS flags (-M, -m, -R, -r) must be equal to the number of GPFS mirroring failure groups. For example, if the file system has 2 failure groups, then set the value for the flags (-M, -m, -R, -r) to 2.

  4. Set the GPFS -K attribute to "whenpossible".

Verifying the GPFS Configuration

You can use the following IBM commands to get detailed configuration information.
