Deleting Exchange Mailboxes, Messages, or Public Folders

Applies to: User Mailbox, Journal Mailbox, ContentStore Mailbox

Administrators can delete Exchange mailboxes and items such as messages, folders, contacts, and calendar entries. Administrators can view the deletion history in the Audit Trail report.

Before You Begin

  • The administrator must have the Delete Data capability on the subclient where the Exchange mailbox is configured in the CommCell Console.

  • Archive operations must have run on the user mailbox.

Procedure

  1. In the navigation pane, go to Protect > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  2. In the row of the Exchange client that contains that mailbox or folder that you want to delete, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore.

Backup content appears in a list format for all mailboxes.

  3. From the list, expand the folders to locate the items you want to restore, and then select the items.

You can use the Search bar to filter mailbox contents and find the items you want restore.

  4. At the top area of the page, click Delete.

The Delete options dialog box appears.

  5. In the box, enter the reason that you're deleting this backup content, and then click Delete.

Note

Messages deleted by the administrator in the Command Center are not visible by the end user in the Web Console, but messages deleted by the end user can be viewed by the administrator by selecting View deleted items and are marked with a Editing or Deleting a Delegate Operation on a Mailbox or a Folder Using Exchange Mailbox (2)icon.

Results

  • The delete operation deletes the messages or the folder permanently.

  • You cannot access deleted items from the Commvault software.

  • You can view deleted emails from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Web Access (OWA). The stubbed emails that were deleted cannot be recalled from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Web Access (OWA).
