For faster browsing of guest files during restores and for searching guest files, you can enable file indexing for your VMs/instances, VM groups, and/or backup plans.
File indexing crawls backups to create a file (called an index) that contains all the metadata (such as file name and date). Commvault uses the index to support browsing and searching of guest files. File indexing works directly with backup data, without connecting to the hypervisor or examining VM group configuration.
