Product License Types

A product-based licenses appear in the CommCell environment when an instance of the agent is installed. Most agents or CommCell components require a license so that you can use them.

You can view the product-based licenses applied to the CommCell environment in the Licensing and Registration dialog box.

Notes

You must obtain one license for each client where you plan to locate the agent. Applicable clients include Database Availability Group (DAG clients or pseudo clients) and stand-alone clients. If you have a DAG pseudo client with multiple nodes, then you must apply the license only at the DAG pseudo client level. You do not need to apply a license at each child node.

Exchange Mailbox (User Mailbox)

Exchange Mailbox (Public Folder)	No license is required to protect public folders.

Note

The license is consumed per user mailbox type in Active status. All other mailbox types, such as Shared, Group, Room, O365 Group, and Mailbox Status Deleted and Mailbox Status Disabled, are not counted as part of the license.
The same Mailbox Archive Solution license is used for both on-premises and O365 (based on the number of users).

Exchange Mailbox Agent (Journal and Content Store Mailbox)

Notes

For ContentStore Mailbox (SMTP) agents, licenses are consumed for all types of mailboxes. For Exchange User Mailbox agents, licenses are only consumed for user mailboxes.
The license statistics are updated based on an Admin thread background process that runs once per week.
