When you use an on-premise MediaAgent to back up the data of a client computer to a cloud library, you can configure to use a cloud MediaAgent to perform synthetic full backup job to improve the job performance and to reduce the workload on the on-premise MediaAgent.
Note
Depending on the location that hosts the index server and the deduplication database (DDB), there could be network traffic between the cloud MediaAgent and the MediaAgents that host the index server and the DDB. Cloud MediaAgent is deployed to perform reads from the cloud library during the synthetic full jobs.
Before You Begin
-
Create a cloud MediaAgent on the same cloud environment where the cloud library resides.
For more information, see MediaAgent Installations.
-
Ensure the cloud MediaAgent is reachable by the MediaAgents that host the index server and the DDB.
-
On the primary copy of the storage policy, ensure that you selected the option Automatically add new data path in the Data Paths tab of Storage Policy Copy Properties dialog box.
For more information, see Copy Properties - Data Path Configuration.
Procedure
-
Share the mount path under the cloud library that you used to perform backup operations with the cloud MediaAgent.
For instructions, see Sharing a Mount Path.
Note
A new data path with the cloud MediaAgent is automatically added for the storage policy.
-
For backup jobs other than the synthetic full job, configure to use the on-premises MediaAgent.
For instructions, see Setting up Client and MediaAgent Pairing for Data Protection Operations.
-
Perform a synthetic full job using the cloud MediaAgent. You must select the cloud MediaAgent and the cloud library in the Data Path tab of the Advanced Backup Options dialog box for both manual and schedule synthetic full jobs.
For more information, see Running Synthetic Full Backup Jobs.
