Performing a Redirect Restore of a MySQL Subclient

You can perform a redirect restore operation to redirect all databases to a different path in the destination client. You can run a redirect restore operation when the current path has run out of space and you want to redirect the data directory to a different location, or for troubleshooting. You can redirect an entire database (all tablespaces) to a new client.

Note

Redirect restore feature is available only from SP9.

Restrictions

  • You can perform redirect restore operations only on IntelliSnap backups.

  • You cannot perform redirect restore operations on MySQL database block-level backups.

Before You Begin

  • Verify that you have a MySQL instance on the CommCell Console both at the source server and the destination server.

  • The versions of MySQL on both the source server and the destination server must be the same.

  • If you are performing a redirect restore on the same server, but a different location, verify that you have enough space in the new location. The MySQL user should also have full access to the new location.

  • Before you perform a redirect restore operation, you must rename or remove the data directory from the destination server.

  • Stop the destination server.

  • Run a backup operation from the default subclient of an instance.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to client> MySQL >source_instance.

  2. Right-click the subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. Select the data that you want to restore, and then click Recover All Selected.

The MySQL Restore dialog box appears.

  5. On the General tab, from the Destination Server list, select the destination instance.

  6. Select the Recover check box. In the Staging Location box, enter the staging location where the logs will be restored.

  7. Click Advanced.

The Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.

  8. On the Redirect tab, select the Redirect check box to enable the redirect restore operation.

  9. From the Source Path column, select a path that you are restoring data from.

  10. In the New Path box, you can type or browse to the new destination path where you want to restore the data.

    Note

If you are redirecting to a different path on the same server, the source and the destination instances would be the same. Provide a different location on the same server to redirect the restore.

  11. Click Apply.

  12. Click OK.

Results

  • The Data directory is restored to the new destination path that you specified.

  • Log files are applied to the MySQL destination server.
