Restore Options for All Selected Items (General) - Guest Files and Folders Restore

Use this dialog box to control how files and folders will be restored. The following options are available when you are restoring files and folders:

  • Restore ACLs Only: To restore Access Control Lists (ACLs) from the backed-up files to the restored files, select this option. By default, this option is cleared and the restored files assume the ACLs of the parent directory.

  • Unconditional Overwrite: To unconditionally write restored data to the specified location, select this option.

By default this option is cleared and the following occurs:

    • Files/directories with names that are the same as those in the restore path and where the backed up data is as old or older are not restored.

    • Files/directories with names that are the same as those in the restore path and where the backed up data is newer are restored.

    • Files/directories with names that are different from those in the restore path are restored.

Restore Destination

  • Destination client/Proxy Client: From the list, select a proxy computer. By default, the proxy computer that was used to back up a VM is used to restore the files and folders from the VM.

To restore files to a client with an agent, configure the following options:

    1. From the Destination client list, select the target client from the Destination client list.

    2. At the bottom of the dialog box, click the Advanced button.

    3. On the Data Path tab, from the Use Proxy list, select the proxy client that you want to mount the snapshot, and then click OK.

  • Restore To Virtual Machine To restore guest files and folders to a VM, select this option. Use this option for agentless restores.

When you select this option, the Destination client option label changes to Proxy Client.

    • vCenter: To restore to a different vCenter, click Change.

    • Virtual Machine: To specify a destination VM, click the menu button [...], and from the list, select a VM. The destination must be a Windows VM.

      • User Name: Enter the user name for the virtual machine. For a domain user, enter the user name in the format domain_name\user_name.

The user credentials for the target VM must have administrative permissions sufficient to restore files to the VM, including write permissions.

      • Password: Enter the password for the virtual machine.

  • Specify Destination Path: Enter the path on the destination client to which the files and folders will be restored. If the specified path does not exist, it will be created during the restore process. To specify a path on the destination client, click Browse.

Preserve Source Paths

  • Preserve n levels from end of source path: To keep a number of folder levels at the end of source path of the selected data in the restore operation, select this option, and then enter a number.

For example, if the selected data is Documents\Memos\Sales, this option is set to 1 and the Destination path is \temp, the data will be restored as \temp\Sales.

  • Remove n levels from beginning of source path: To remove the specified number of folder levels from the beginning of source path of the selected data in the restore operation, select this option, and then enter a number.

For example, if the selected data is Documents\Memos\Sales, this option is set to 1 and the Destination path is \temp, the data will be restored as \temp\Memos\Sales.

Save As Script

Click to open the Save As Script dialog, which allows you to save this operation and the selected options as a script file (in XML format). The script can later be executed from the Command Line Interface using qoperation execute command.

When you save an operation as a script, each option in the dialog will have a corresponding XML parameter in the script file. When executing the script, you can modify the value for any of these XML parameters.

For more information on restores performed from the command line, see Command Line Interface for the Virtual Server Agent.
