Support for HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Storage

Support for HPE StoreOnce Catalyst storage

This page describes the supported operating systems, StoreOnce software versions, supported capabilities, limitations, and Cloud Bank considerations for HPE StoreOnce Catalyst storage.

Supported MediaAgents

You can configure HPE StoreOnce Catalyst libraries by using MediaAgents on the following 64-bit operating systems:

  • AIX

  • HP-UX

  • Linux

  • Solaris

  • Windows

For the supported operating system versions, see MediaAgent: System Requirements.

Supported StoreOnce software versions

The following minimum HPE StoreOnce software versions are supported.

Platform Minimum version
StoreOnce Gen3 3.18.7
StoreOnce Gen4 4.2.3
StoreOnce Gen5 5.1.0
HPE Data Protection Accelerator Node for X10000 5.0.0

Supported capabilities

HPE StoreOnce Catalyst libraries support the following capabilities:

  • All operations supported for a disk library.

  • Data immutability.

  • Auxiliary copy by using the Catalyst Copy feature.

  • Auxiliary copy to another StoreOnce appliance.

  • Auxiliary copy to disk storage.

  • Auxiliary copy to tape storage.

  • Cloud Bank storage.

Limitations

Review the following limitations before configuring HPE StoreOnce Catalyst storage.

Library limitations

  • Only one mount path is supported per library.

  • Moving a mount path is not supported.

  • Deduplication, data compression, and data encryption are provided by the HPE StoreOnce device. As a result, these options aren't available on the associated storage policy copy.

Performance limitations

  • High bandwidth mode is not supported.

  • Data multiplexing isn't supported and must not be enabled.

  • 1-minute RPO protection isn't supported for HPE StoreOnce Catalyst storage pools.

Copy operation limitations

  • Inline Copies aren't supported.

  • Parallel Copies aren't supported.

  • Synthetic full backups across StoreOnce appliances aren't supported because synthetic full backups use the Catalyst Clone feature, which copies data without reading the data back through the MediaAgent.

  • Auxiliary copies from a StoreOnce primary copy to a secondary disk or cloud storage copy can consume more storage than the primary copy. Because compression is disabled on the primary copy, the secondary copy is also written in an uncompressed format.

Cloud Bank considerations

Cloud Bank storage is supported.

When using Cloud Bank storage:

  • If a Cloud Bank Store is disconnected and later reattached, update the IP address so that it points to the new StoreOnce system.

  • If the Cloud Bank Store is attached to a StoreOnce system in read-only mode, configure the connected MediaAgent as read-only.

  • In a multi-reader configuration, configure:

  • One MediaAgent with read/write access to the StoreOnce system.

  • One MediaAgent with read-only access to the StoreOnce Catalyst store.
