Configuring Compliance Lock

To prevent accidental data deletion and maintain the retention period, configure the compliance lock for your laptop backup copy. The compliance lock setting prevents retention settings from being lowered and prevents laptop copies with valid jobs from being deleted.

Compliance lock enables Commvault software-level protection. Once you back up the data to storage, it cannot be modified or deleted until its retention period expires. Further, you can increase retention periods, but cannot reduce them after configuring compliance lock.

For the highest level of protection, use Indelible compliance lock, which cannot be disabled, even by Commvault support. Choose this option only if you are confident in your configured retention period and available storage capacity.

Before You Begin

To view and enable the Indelible compliance lock option, you must add the showIndelibleComplianceLock additional setting.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.

  2. To view laptop plans click the Laptop tab.

  3. In the Plan name column, click the laptop plan the backup copy belongs to.

  4. Click the Storage policies tab.

  5. Expand Default.

  6. Click the copy for which you want to enable compliance lock.

  7. In the Immutability section, move the Compliance lock toggle key to the right.

  8. (Optional) To permanently prevent the lock from being disabled, even by Commvault support, select the Indelible compliance lock check box.

  9. On the confirmation dialog box, confirm your agreement. If you selected Indelible compliance lock, type Enable indelible compliance lock, and click Confirm.

  • You can add the Immutability column to the copies grid, and the Immutable column to the Jobs list to verify the immutability status.

Warnings

Irreversible Action: Enabling Indelible compliance lock is strictly irreversible. You cannot lower the retention period, delete jobs manually, or delete associated storage or copies.
