For NDMP backup and restore operations, if the access node associated with the backup plan does not have connectivity to the NAS file server, you can configure proxy access nodes that do have connectivity.
You can configure the access node at client level or subclient level. After a proxy access node is configured, the backup data flows from the file server to the proxy access node and from the proxy access node to the backup plan access node. The backup plan access node writes the data to the media.
In addition to file server connectivity, configure proxy access nodes for the following benefits:
-
Reduce LAN traffic by enabling client-side (source-side) deduplication. Client-side deduplication reduces traffic between the proxy access node and the backup plan access node.
-
If multiple proxy access nodes are configured:
-
Load balance data transfer operations across resources.
-
Provide failover access nodes if a access node is unavailable.
-
Run backup jobs on multiple proxy access nodes.
The number of streams is divided by 4 to determine how many proxy access nodes can be used. For example, 8 streams divided by 4 is 2, so the backup job is run on 2 proxy access nodes. (The number of streams is determined by the number of subclient data readers and by the number of subclient content paths.)
-
You can configure proxy access nodes for the NDMP Agent at either the agent level or the subclient level. If you configure proxy access nodes at both the agent level and the subclient level, the subclient level takes precedence.
Note
If IntelliSnap is enabled, make sure to add an access node with FS and MA packages
