You can set filters to exclude certain files and directories from backup operations. Filters can also be used to exclude system-related files which consistently fail during a backup operation. See Content, Filters, and Regular Expressions for comprehensive information on filtering data from backup.
Before You Begin
Review the filter guidelines. The filter guidelines include important vendor-specific information.
Procedure

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.
The file servers Overview page appears.

On the Files tab, in the Name column, click the NAS server.
The NAS server properties page appears.

In the Protocols table, in the Protocol column, click NDMP.
The Overview page of the NDMP protocol appears.

On the Subclients tab, from the Backup sets list, select a backup set.
The subclients associated with the backup set appears.

Select the subclient of which you want to edit the backup plan.
The Overview page of the subclient appears.

In the Content tile, click Edit
.The Add/Edit content dialog box appears.

For Content, click ADD and then click BROWSE or CUSTOM PATH to specify the content that you want to back up.

Under Exclusions, click ADD and then click BROWSE or CUSTOM PATH to exclude files and directories that you do not want to exclude.
If you want to specify a file name pattern, you can use wildcards in the filter strings. The filter strings are case-sensitive.
For example: If you want to filter all the filenames starting with LICENSE, specify LICENSE*. However, filenames starting with license (in lowercase) will not be filtered.

From the Include global exclusions list, select one the following:

Off: To disable global filters for this subclient; only subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

On: To enable global filters for this subclient; both global and subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

Use cell level policy: To include global filters for this subclient only if the Use Global Filters on All Subclients option is selected in the Global Filters.

Click Save.
You can modify or delete existing filter strings. Any modification to the filter configuration is effective during the following backup.
