Performing Post-Setup Tasks After Adding Nodes to a Commvault Grid Storage Pool

Perform the following tasks after adding new nodes to an existing Commvault Grid storage pool:

  1. Secure the new node(s) as follows:

    1. Install the latest Commvault updates in the new nodes

The MediaAgent in the new nodes may have with an older version of the Commvault software. To view the MediaAgent version in the new nodes, see View the Commvault Grid MediaAgent version .

If necessary, update the software to the latest maintenance release version. For more information, see Updating Commvault Software on a Server.

    2. Install the latest Commvault Grid platform version in the new nodes

During the add node process, the CVFS version is updated. However the new nodes may not be fully up-to-date with the Operating System updates. To view the Commvault Grid platform version, see Viewing the Commvault Grid Platform Version.

If necessary, install the latest platform version to ensure the new nodes are running with the latest security fixes. For more information, see Installing Operating System Updates on Existing Nodes.

    3. Enable secure SSH connectivity in the new nodes

Enable secure SSH connectivity in the new nodes, if it is enabled on the other nodes in the storage pool. For more information, see Enabling Secure SSH Connectivity.

    4. Enable Firewall in the new nodes

Enable firewall in the new nodes, if it is enabled on the other nodes in the storage pool. For more information, see Enabling Firewall.

    5. Disable root access in the storage pool

Disable root access, if root access was originally disabled in the storage pool. For more information, see Enabling or Disabling Root Access.

  2. Verify with sestatus command

Verify that the sestatus command reports Enforcing and all Commvault and the Commvault File System (CVFS) processes run under cvstorage context. Run the following command to ensure that the processes are running under cvstorage context.

    pstree -Z | grep -i cv output

  3. If ransomware protection was enabled on the HyperScale storage pool, then enable ransomware protection on the new nodes that you added.
