The following prerequisites are required to add additional nodes:
Existing Node Requirements
Review the following requirements to add an existing node:
-
Check the following minimum required versions in your existing setup and make sure to upgrade the versions where needed.
-
CommServe Server Version
View the CommServe server version.
If the CommServe server is in an earlier version, update the software to the latest maintenance release version as described in Updating Commvault Software on a Server.
-
Commvault Flex Appliance MediaAgents Version
Make sure that the following MediaAgent version is available:
- For VaultOS 9 deployment - Long-Term Release 11.44.6 or higher
- For VaultOS 8 deployment - Long-Term Release 11.40.6 or higher
Verify and ensure that all the MediaAgents in the storage pool have the same software version.
If one or more MediaAgent is in an earlier version, update the software to the latest maintenance release version as described in Updating Commvault Software on a Server.
Note
The Commvault Flex Appliance MediaAgent must only be used with the Commvault Flex Appliance storage pool.
-
-
Enable root access, if root access is disabled in the storage pool. For more information, see Enabling or Disabling Root Access.
Note
Do not change the default root password on the node. (You will be prompted for a new password, during the Add Node operation.)
-
Verify that ICMP/PING request to default Gateway is enabled on the node. If disabled, update the network settings to allow ICMP/PING to the default Gateway.
New Node Requirements
-
New nodes must be identical to the existing nodes in the storage pool, with the same drive count and drive size.
Mixing of certified hardware vendors or server generations is supported provided the same drive count and drive size is maintained.
New Node Setup
Setup the hardware in the new nodes using the following information:
-
Racking the Hardware
Rack the new Commvault Flex Appliance Appliance nodes to properly mount and secure the hardware.
-
Determine the network configuration in your existing setup
You must setup the new nodes using the same topology that was originally used in your existing setup. Check your existing network configuration to understand the network topology used in the existing nodes.
For more information about the supported topologies, see Determining the Network Topology
-
Setup the DNS
Setup the necessary DNS records for the new nodes.
For more information, see Setting Up the DNS.
-
Setup the Switches
Ensure that the switch configurations are in place depending on the network topology in your environment.
For more information, see Setting Up the Switches.
-
Obtain the CommServe server credentials
Obtain the necessary credentials to connect to existing CommServe server.
You will require the following information to connect to an existing CommServe server:
CommServe hostname (FQDN)
Fully qualified hostname (FQDN) associated with the existing CommServe server.
Note
TCP Ports 8400 & 443 must be open from the nodes to the CommServe server.
Username
Username associated with the admin user.
Password
Password for the admin user.
-
Verify that ICMP/PING request to default Gateway is enabled on the node. If disabled, update the network settings to allow ICMP/PING to the default Gateway.
