Microsoft is replacing Exchange Web Services (EWS) with Microsoft Graph for Exchange Online. To prepare for the transition, verify that your Microsoft Entra ID (Azure) application includes the required Microsoft Graph application permissions.
Before You Begin
Verify that your Microsoft Entra ID (Azure) application has the required Microsoft Graph application permissions. For more information, see Request and grant permissions to Azure APIs.
Important
-
Starting September 2026, the transition to Microsoft Graph will occur automatically. You will only need to verify the Azure app status and assign the required permissions.
-
Microsoft Graph does not currently support backup of Microsoft 365 group mailboxes or public folders. Commvault continues to use Exchange Web Services (EWS) to protect these workloads. If Microsoft 365 group mailboxes or public folders are critical to your environment, retain your existing EWS permissions and refer to Transitioning to the Microsoft Graph API for M365 - Exchange Online for the latest guidance.
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Microsoft 365.
-
On the Apps tab, click the Exchange Online app.
-
Click the Configuration tab.
-
Under Exchange connection settings, verify the following:
-
The Azure app includes the required Microsoft Graph application permissions.
-
The Azure app is Authorized.
